Special education health services will be provided in accordance to the Administrative Rules of Special Education and Garner-Hayfield School Board Policy.  An Individual Health Plan (IHP), including a plan for emergencies (EP), may be developed for students when their health condition warrants.  The school nurse, in collaboration with parents, doctors, and the IEP Team, will determine the special health services to be provided and document the services in a written Individual Health Plan (IHP) and/or Emergency Plan (EP).  Special health services will be documented in the IEP and delivered in compliance with state special education laws, district polices, and professional nursing practice, as defined by the Iowa Board of Nursing.  Because comprehensive assessment and pre-planning promote student safety, wellness and continuity of care while at school, parents are encouraged to immediately notify the school nurse or special education coordinator regarding their student’s health condition or need for special health services.
